堺市内のホテルで、４０代の男性が自転車にまたがったまま変死しているのが見つかっていたことが１３日、堺署への取材で分かった。ホテル従業員も約２カ月間立ち寄っていない地下へ通じる階段の踊り場で発見。司法解剖でも死因は分からず、熱中症や突然死などが考えられるが、結局謎のままだ。同署は遺体の状況などから事件性はないと判断したが、「それにしても不可解な死に方」と首をかしげている。

　堺署によると、変死体が見つかったのは３日午前９時ごろ。「異臭がする」とホテル関係者から通報があり、署員が駆けつけると、屋外の非常階段から地下へ下りる踊り場で、自転車にまたがり、壁にもたれかかった状態の遺体を発見した。

　指紋などから身元は４０代の男性と判明。着衣の乱れや外傷はなく、現場周辺に転落したような形跡もなかった。司法解剖の結果、死後１週間以上と推定されたが、死因は「不明」と判定された。

　ホテル関係者の堺署への説明によると、非常階段は外からでも入れるが、遺体が見つかった踊り場には少なくとも２カ月は誰も立ち寄っていなかったという。
